Summer Shoots 2019: Summer Filmmaking Camps for Kids

The Summer Shoots (our Movie Making Summer Camps) are on their way! We’re excited to share the details of this year’s theme!

Every year we set a new challenge for young filmmakers. Each year there is a new collection of creative inspirations to explore.

This year’s theme is “The Stuff of Dreams and Nightmares”. It’ll be be a fun and fantastical look into subconscious imaginations!

Within the theme, we’ll look at:

  • techniques for conveying dream sequences…
  • fantasy lands, utopias and dystopias…
  • colour-work and scene setting…
  • surrealism and dream-like transitions…
  • prophecies and supernatural visions…
  • point-of-view/first person cinematography…
  • selective storytelling for building tension, suspense and horror.

Each Studio group (our system of age tiers) will work on a series of age-appropriate workshop techniques. They’ll produce a unique film production, which is based on their own ideas and imaginations. They will also produce elements corresponding to this year’s creative challenge.

Our team will be busy researching creative approaches to the theme. They’ll put together lots of fun activities to inspire the filmmakers’ imaginations.

It’ll be a summer of bringing dreams and nightmares to life.

We can’t wait to get started!

Summer Shoots are action-packed summer holiday camps for children and teenagers (ages 5-18). Over the course of five fun workshop days, they develop lots of new creative skills in filmmaking. They produce their own film production. At the end of the week, we present their work to parents and families.
