Sparks was founded in 2010 by our current directors, Dan and Donna, who set out to create exceptional learning experiences to empower young filmmakers.
We’ve been running filmmaking classes and camps for children and teenagers for almost 10 years.
We started out with one workshop centre – our first home in Balham, South West London – and welcomed 9 keen young filmmakers along to take part.
Sparks quickly grew. In 2012, we opened a new base in Highgate, followed by another base in Hampstead in 2014. In 2016, we welcomed filmmakers in Dulwich, then Kensington, then Weybridge to the Sparks film set.
Over the last 9 years, we’ve helped more and more young imaginations to develop their creative skills and to express their ideas and voices through film.
Now it’s time to embark on our next adventure…
This Autumn we’ll be launching a pilot project in franchising.
With six busy and growing workshop centres, our hands are too full to launch any more, but we receive requests almost every day from parents all over the UK seeking out a Sparks in their home town. So we want to enable passionate and hardworking people to launch their own Sparks filmmaking classes in their local communities.
Our pilot project seeks to work with a small number of dedicated franchisees, who can put in at least 15-20 hours per week, and who want to inspire creativity and confidence in young filmmakers.

We’re incredibly excited to embark on this latest adventure. We can’t wait to open up the magic of the Sparks film set to children all over the UK and to work with our first group of franchisees!
