We Are Reopening!
We plan to reopen in time for the summer holidays. We know that safety is still paramount. We’ll be introducing lots of new safety measures for face-to-face sessions and operating strict maximum class sizes.
In the first instance, we’ll be running a reduced programme of face-to-face Summer Shoots. You can find more details on this below.
We’ll also be introducing a new online programme of filmmaking courses in the summer holidays.
Registration for confirmed face-to-face courses, and for online courses, is open. You can register for any programmes here.
Summer Shoots – Updates:
We are really excited to be able to welcome some movie makers back to Sparks this summer. We can’t wait to get back into the workshop space and help filmmakers to create some incredible productions.
We know lockdown has been really tough, so we going to make sure these Summer Shoots are extra special, extra imaginative, and just offer plenty of creative fun, as well as the chance to work collaboratively with other young filmmakers.
We’re in the process of confirming which dates and locations can go ahead. You can find all confirmed courses (to date) below, or on individual location pages.
We’re aiming to confirm all courses by 6th July at the latest.
If you’ve already booked, and we’re unable to go ahead, then we’ll be in touch with you prior to this date. You’ll be able to transfer to another course, or we’ll issue a full refund.
Bookings are open for all courses that are confirmed to go ahead. You can register online here.
Please be aware that this is likely to be a much reduced programme compared to previous years. This is due to practical constraints and the availability of space and instructors. Because of this, availability for Summer Shoots places is very limited and it’s unlikely we’ll be able to programme any additional dates.
In terms of safety measures, our class sizes are already small enough to comply with government guidance (currently a maximum of 12 students per group), but we will be introducing lots of new measures to safeguard against transmission. These include working to ‘bubbles’, routine sanitisation practices and deep cleaning. We’ll be sharing these in more detail in the next few weeks.

Online Filmmaking Courses
This summer, we’re also launching online courses for young movie makers.
These will run differently to the Summer Shoots, but will still offer plenty of practical skill building, opportunity to collaborate and also offer the chance to complete a recognised Arts Award qualification (through Trinity).
These courses are designed to inspire filmmakers taking part from home. We’ve worked hard to make sure they offer real creative benefits. Filmmakers taking part will explore different practical skills linked to the roles of director, camera operator/director of photography, actor, editor and other film crew. They also explore different inspirations and styles, working together to produce their own content both individually and in collaboration with others.
Courses are based on 15 hours of live tuition per week, with additional activities to complete at home. For more details, take a look here.
More to Come…
Behind the scenes, we’re still working to finalise the whole programme as we emerge from lockdown.
We’ll continue to post more updates as we know more. If there is anything you’d like to know, then please do get in touch.
From all of us here, we hope you and your family are all doing OK through these challenging times.
We look forward to seeing you again soon.
