Easter Holiday Courses – Develop Your Film Directing Skills

Easter Holiday Courses - Filmmaking - Film Directors' Lab - Ages 11-14

Develop the Key Skills Needed for Film Directing

Young filmmakers interested in film directing can flex their creative muscles in this Easter holiday course for ages 11-14.

This creative lab workshop explores the different practical and creative skills needed as a film director.

Young filmmakers taking part will explore how to drive performances from actors. They’ll also explore how to work with camera crew and art departments to realise their creative vision.

By the end of the week, filmmakers will take away new skills in film directing, as well as knowledge on how to develop their own signature style of storytelling.

Film Directing Course for Teenagers

Film Directing Skills

Through practical, ‘real life’ creative activities, young directors will practise and develop a range of skills to take their film directing to the next level.

They’ll workshop different methods and techniques for translating their vision onto the screen.

The filmmaking workshop covers working with actors, as well as look at approaches to casting. The young directors will explore how to work with camera crew and different styles of production design.

There is also a practical filmmaking assignment for the filmmakers to apply their learning, which can also feature within their showreel.

Half Term Courses for Teenagers Filmmaking

Collaborate with Other Young Filmmakers

This Easter holiday course also offers the chance for young film directors to meet fellow young filmmakers and potential collaborators.

All the activities are practical and involve plenty of creative collaboration in small groups.

Every young director taking part will emerge with a network of new like-minded friends and collaborators they can share their ideas with. Not only does this help with skills development, but it also offers every young filmmaker potential opportunity in the future.

Sparks Film Courses for Kids

Build a Portfolio & Director’s Showreel

The Directors’ Lab is a great way to produce material for portfolios and for showreels.

Throughout the film directing course, there will be plenty of equipment available, as well as supportive crew members, actors, and locations, so that filmmakers can capture the potential of their work on a broader scale than videos made at home.

All the material produced during the workshop can be added to personal portfolios. There will also be a workshop session on how to build a director’s showreel.

Sparks is extraordinary – brimming with exciting opportunities for kids.

My daughter has enjoyed both weekly classes and a magnificent Summer Club at Sparks.

She has loved every single second – this is active learning, there’s no chance to get bored. And the staff are the best of the best, bringing masses of lived experience of scripts and sets and enabling the kids to fearlessly explore their imaginations and leave their comfort zones.

All Sparks Easter holiday courses provide exceptional environments to optimise learning and creativity.

Our filmmaking courses always work with small class sizes.

There are 12 filmmakers per studio, which offers everyone plenty of practical opportunity and a high level of personalised attention.

In Studio 4, our staff ratio is at least 1:8.

Thank you Sparks for inspiring our son and allowing his talent and passion to shine. Such a creative way to spend half term. Connecting with children just as imaginative as him.

We think he’s found his tribe!
