Unforgettable Summer Filmmaking Fun for Ages 5-18
Action-Packed Filmmaking Summer Schools for Kids & Teenagers
Sparks Summer Shoots are action-packed filmmaking summer schools for children and teenagers.
Young filmmakers develop their talents and skills, from both behind and in front of the camera.
During the weeklong filmmaking summer schools, they produce and star in their own film production.
Each week is a unique experience full of fun, creative learning and imagination.
“This is the best holiday course they’ve ever been on.”
Make Your Own Film Production in a Week
In Sparks filmmaking summer schools, young filmmakers learn all about the creative process of filmmaking.
They work as a real film crew to produce their own film productions from start to finish. They’ll develop their own imaginative script, before shooting and starring on screen.
The young crew members step into all the professional roles you find on a real filmset. They’ll direct their scenes and sequences, shoot all their angles, crew their filmset and even more.
By the end of the week, they’ll take away a host of new skills in filmmaking, as well as creative inspiration and learning to power their next creative steps.
Learn Creative Filmmaking Skills
At Sparks filmmaking summer schools, young filmmakers learn new creative and technical skills in all aspects of filmmaking.
Taking part in our filmmaking summer schools, they’ll develop skills in Screenwriting, Directing, Cinematography, Screen Acting, Production Design, Video Editing, Production Crewing and even more.
The young crews are involved in every step of the process, making a completely unique film inspired by their own ideas and imaginations.
“Finally, a summer camp that she actually wants to come to!
I’m thrilled and she’s loving it.”
The filmmaking summer schools are action-packed with creative challenges, from storytelling, design all the way through to editing.
It’s a week full of new experiences to boost creativity and inspire new interests.
The young crews produce their film from start to finish, producing a filmmaking masterpiece ready to share with you. They capture all their creativity on camera along the way.
It’s also a great way to meet new friends, to build up confidence and social skills.
Learn from Filmmaking Specialists
Filmmaking summer school programmes are taught by specialist Sparks filmmaking facilitators.
Our team are all recruited from film/TV production backgrounds, as well as arts/media education backgrounds.
Everyone has hands-on, working knowledge of film production and valuable filmmaking know-how to share with young filmmakers. Our team are passionate about inspiring the next generation.
All our team are DBS-checked and undergo careful Sparks training, including safeguarding.
Practical, Hands On Filmmaking Activities
All activities at our filmmaking summer schools are hands-on and practical.
There is plenty of equipment and plenty of opportunity for everyone to contribute towards the different production areas.
The young filmmakers work using a range of equipment to give their filmmaking ambition and to show what it’s like to work on a real filmset.
Equipment includes tripods and grip equipment, as well as greenscreen. Our younger crews shoot on high spec camcorders and our older crews work with DSLR and broadcast camera models. All our cameras shoot in 4K or Full HD, chosen for their image quality, user friendliness and the ability to withstand lots of adventurous filmmaking by young crews.
Exceptional Learning Environments
All Sparks filmmaking summer schools provide exceptional environments to optimise learning and creativity.
Our summer schools work with small class sizes in peer age groupings called Studios.
There are 12 filmmakers per studio, which offers everyone plenty of practical opportunity and a high level of personalised attention.
Our staff ratio is at least 1:8. In practice, it’s usually 1:6 or higher, especially for crews in Studios 1-3 (ages 5-11).
Great camp to develop creativity and for children to learn about film making.
In this short period of time the teachers were engaging; the group developed a story for a short film, acted, set the scenes and were behind the camera.
My son loved the activities.
